Koron, Sori and Microtones

Persian Music Scales uses explicit labels for pitches that lie between twelve equal-tempered semitone positions.

Koron

In the application, koron marks a pitch modeled 50 cents below the nearest diatonic reference note.

Sori

In the application, sori marks a pitch modeled 50 cents above the nearest diatonic reference note.

Important limitation

These ±50-cent offsets are a computational notation convention used by this educational model. Actual Persian performance intonation is not necessarily a fixed quarter-tone grid and can vary with context, performer, instrument and tradition.

Why cents are used

Cents provide a logarithmic unit for comparing pitch intervals independently of absolute frequency.
